VIDEO: Wakeboarding in the Minnesota flood waters

CHASKA, Minn. (KMSP) -

A couple of creative young men rigged a gas-powered winch to a tow rope, turning Athletic Park in Chaska, Minn. into a wakeboard park on Wednesday -- no boat required. They had plenty of fun until the police shut it down.

While fun, the impromptu wakeboard park is incredibly dangerous and unsanitary. The Minnesota Department of Health this week issued a warning to avoid any unnecessary contact with flood water.

“People need to remember that flood water may be contaminated with sewage, disease-causing germs and other potential contaminants,” said Kris Ehresmann, director of infectious diseases for the Minnesota Department of Health. “People should avoid swimming, playing or other contact with flood water – and in particular, they should avoid swallowing it.”

Playing in flood water can also be dangerous because it’s hard to see debris that may be lurking under murky waters.
