Driver's Seizure Causes SUV To Crash Into Condos

Posted: Updated:

PROVO, UT- Police in Provo, Utah believe a medical emergency may be to blame for a car crash Monday morning.

A driver made a sharp right into a condo complex after apparently suffering a seizure.

Provo police were called to this scene around 6:00 a.m. Monday.

They say the driver of an SUV lost control and crashed into these condos.

"She veered to the right hit a pole that had a telephone line on it, she then came into oncoming traffic heading southbound on 900 east veered a sharp right into these condos," explained Provo Police Lieutanant Matt Siufanua.

Police say the driver of the SUV, Julie Cox had a seizure Monday morning while she was driving to work.

Her daughter says her mother has had the condition for 20 years and can usually tell when an episode is coming.

"Usually when she feels like she's going to have a seizure she needs to take a valium and lay down, go to sleep, unfortunately this morning woke up and decided to go to work and it wasn't the best decision," said Kelsey Cox.

Cox was taken to a local hospital and treated for minor injuries.

Residents of the demolished condos, that were home at the time of the crash, are thankful the only thing hurt was their home.

It was a lot of excitement for 6:00 a.m. on a Monday.

"And then I heard this loud bang. Like a dump truck had thrown the dumpster up against the side of our house, like a huge bang happened right," said resident Russell McDonald.

Police are checking the validity of the driver's license.

If she has a valid license it could be re-evaluated.
