BODY FOUND: Woman's corpse found in woods, St. Paul police seek tips

Posted: Updated:

The St. Paul Police Department is asking the public to help them gather more information about a body that was located in a wooded area after police received a report that there may be a dead baby there.

Officers were called to the 1400 block of Minnehaha Avenue East just after 9 p.m. on Saturday, but when they arrived, they didn't find a baby. Instead, they found the body of a woman wrapped in a blanket.

"What we are asking for is the public's help in this: If they can identify anybody that is missing or they know anything about this incident, please call us," Sgt. Paul Paulos said.

On Monday, officials identified the woman as 39-year-old Rachel Nigusse, of St. Paul; however, they did not release her cause of death. Her body was taken to the Ramsey County Medical Examiner's Office to confirm her identity and exact cause of death after it was found, and police confirmed they do suspect foul play.

Homicide investigators are currently looking to find out what happened in the moments before "the incident" took place, and they hope a civilian can help them identify the suspect and his or her relationship to the victim, if any. Anyone with information is urged to call the St. Paul Police Homicide Unit at 651-266-5650.
