Posted: Updated:
MINNEAPOLIS (KMSP) -

It's the global game, and watching World Cup soccer can bring you a whole new community of friends. Here are the best local taverns that are stepping up to make the whole month legendary.

Best Band of Hooligans: Nomad World Pub

With four HDTVs and a big HDTV projector inside, plus a projector on the patio (dubbed "Patiovision"), Nomad will be able to show every game, including those simultaneously scheduled. In addition to the normal extensive beer selection, they’re serving Caipirinhas (Brazil’s national cocktail) inside and out. As if that’s not enough, they’re also building a pop-up Favela Village for the month, with a Jumbotron (9' x 15'), a beer garden, food trucks, and Brazilian drummers. If you’re lucky, you might rub elbows with MN United FC players who will be onsite daily. 501 Cedar Ave., Mpls., 612-338-6424, nomadpub.com

Best Outdoor Screen: Brit’s Pub

Boasting 22 screens in total (that’s 11 for each eyeball), including a jumbotron, two projector screens, and six outdoor televisions on the veranda, Brit’s is holding nothing back for this year’s tournament. Gametime drink specials on beers and whiskeys throughout the Cup. 1110 Nicollet Mall, Mpls., 612-332-3908, britspub.com

Best Skyway Sneak: The Local

In true Irish Pub tradition, The Local brings together those of all sporting allegiances to celebrate the wins and mourn the losses of our teams. With a sprawling downtown location, including a whiskey lounge, sanctuary, and pour-your-own Arthur Table, not to mention a kissing room, The Local is an ideal spot to slink to through the skyways and disappear from your inbox while you take in a few matches. 931 Nicollet Mall, Mpls., 612-904-1000, the-local.com

Best Food Special: Ryan's Pub

TVs abound at Ryan's in addition to a giant screen at the back of the bar for all of the games. Throw in decently priced eats and good brew selection and you're set. Check out the burger/country match-up: around the world in 32 sandwiches. 1410 Nicollet Ave., Mpls., 612-208-0826, ryanspub.net

Best for Kids: Pinstripes Bowling, Bocce, and Bistro

If you're looking for a family friendly option, Pinstripes is your ticket. They'll be backing Team USA and Italia with half-price flatbreads and complimentary gelato for every goal scored. 3849 Gallagher Dr., Edina, 952-835-6440, pinstripes.com
