MINNEAPOLIS (KMSP) -

The branch of an elm tree punctured the roof of a home in the Longfellow neighborhood of south Minneapolis during Monday’s storm, leaving a spindle of wood just inches away from one man’s pillow.

“I thought I’d been being nice to my 100-year-old Dutch elm, but evidently there’s been some misunderstanding somewhere,” Monte Hodge wrote in a submission to photos@fox9.com.

Another round of soaking thunderstorms knocked out power to more than 20,000 Xcel Energy customers, following a weekend storm that left 100,000 households in the dark.

TUESDAY FORECAST

Key times: 3 p.m. – 10 p.m.
Key threat: Gusty winds of 60+ mph and large hail >1"

Tuesday will be warm and muggy as highs creep up to the mid to upper 80s. A nearby frontal boundary serves as a focal point to stir up a few more storms later Tuesday afternoon and into the evening hours. Any storms will settle down Tuesday night, but the air will remain sticky as dew points hover near 70.
