Alderman sinking plan for Lake Michigan island resort

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) - A Chicago alderman is sinking a developer's plan for a party barge along the lakefront.

Last week, Breakwater Chicago announced plans for a new attraction that would provide the first major public boating destination in the Chicago Harbor. The vessel would be anchored about a mile offshore and offer visitors a breathtaking view of the city and lake. During the colder months, the vessel would be anchored near the shore and enclosed by a transparent dome.

Officials say the Breakwater resort would have room for up to 2,000 people.

But according to DNAinfo, Alderman Brendan Reilly is concerned about noise and alcohol that the structure just off Navy Pier would generate. Reilly sent a letter to residents in the area saying boating and alcohol just don't mix. Click here for more from DNAinfo.
