WASHINGTON, D.C. (KMSP) - The 2013 WNBA Champion Minnesota Lynx met President Obama at the White House on Thursday to recognize the club’s victory.

"I just can't speak enough about this team behind me," Maya Moore said standing next to the president. "Like Mr. President said, if we don't have opportunities to compete in sports and to play in sports, you don't get to see us up here today," Moore said, thanking owner Glen Taylor for believing in the club.

Moore opened by noting what a special birthday treat this visit was. President Obama wished her a happy birthday, at which point she admitted her birthday was the day before, but told him not to worry, her birthday celebration continues all week.

"It's reduced down from a month, now it's week," she joked.

HIGHLIGHTS

-The Lynx became the fourth team in WNBA history to reach the WNBA Finals in three consecutive seasons

-The Lynx became the fifth team to win two WNBA championship within a three-year span

-A perfect 7-0 postseason

-The second team in WNBA history to go 7-0 in postseason play

-Finished 4-0 at home improving to a 14-2 record at Target Center in franchise postseason history

-Finished 26-8 overall

-Compiled 80 wins over the past three regular seasons, the second-highest three-year total in WNBA history

"That's really the heart of our team, and the heart of this club: We care. It shows when we're on the court, we're together, we're in the community, and I think that's what our nation's about, we care, and we're leaders in that. That's why this team is so special not just talent wise, but just the people that I've been blessed to play with, so hopefully we can continue to make this an annual trip," Moore said.

There's a big misconception about food vendors at the Minnesota State Fair. Many people think you can set up a booth, work 12 days and make a pile of cash. But it's not that easy. Aside from a lot of hard work, it also takes some luck.
