For Sale: A look inside the Alfred J. Fisher mansion

Posted: Updated:
DETROIT (WJBK) - The Alfred J. Fisher Mansion in Detroit's Palmer Woods has been there for 90 years, and now it's now up for sale again.

Walking into the home you feel like you're waltzing back in time.

The 16,500 square foot Detroit masterpiece is priced at $1.6 million dollars. It's located near Seven Mile Road and Woodward Avenue.

It was flawlessly built in 1926 and passionately restored in 1979.

"Really they restored it room by room and [there's] an unbelievable amount of history that they have with the home and about the home," says owner Matthew Duffield.

Inside is about 12-15 bedrooms, depending on your taste, bout nine fireplaces, two kitchens and a 25-yard indoor swimming pool.

An 8,200 square foot basement is not included in the home's square footage that has a grand ballroom, a marble stage, a billiard's room and a hidden prohibition-style bar.

Though the price tag may seem high for most of us, Duffield believes it's a $20 million - $25 million estate in other parts of the country.

The size, the history and the one-of-kind details make it worth it, such as certain wall coverings that are made of horse hair and silk or the hand-painted ceilings and walls in each room.

"The doors are all solid. The hand carved woodworking is meticulous," says Duffield. He tells FOX 2's Erika Erickson four Italian woodworkers spent two years hand carving one particular piece.

And after you admire the art inside head the backyard's 2-acre lot that is filled with gardens, ponds and a tea house.

"There's a brooks system that has six little waterfalls. It's spectacular," says Duffield.

This home sold once a generation has offers coming in but the owner is waiting for the right one.

"We're kind of being patient. We're very confident that a Detroit family, someone that knows the history, that wants to be in the region not just as an investor, that's who we're looking for," says Duffield.
