Jerseylicious Cast Teams Up To Educate Women On Sex Crimes

Posted: Updated:
Green Brook Township, New Jersey (My9NJ) - Glam squad to the rescue! The stars of the reality TV show Jerseylicious is teaming up with Vanity Drink to raise awareness and educate young women in New Jersey on the dangers of sexual assault and sex trafficking. This event is called, Glambition, which is a glamorous way to get an education!

The Gatsby Salon is where the show Jerseylicious takes place and also where this event was held. One of the stars of Jerseylicious, Gayle Giacomo, was greeting girls who came to the event and escorting them to receive different kinds of salon services, ranging from hair to nails.

Giacomo explained that she didn't realize this was taking place so close to home, she thought it only happened in other countries. As a mother, she is really concerned and feels the need to spread the word. After all, education is key!

"If I was ignorant to it, how many people don't know about it?" she said.

Vanity Drink, the other organizer of the event, was founded by Brandi Hezinger. Going along with the theme “glamour to the rescue”, Hezinger created an anti-aging drink. Some of the proceeds made from this drink will go to Nomi Networks, which helps women get out of the sex trade. Founder of Nomi Networks, Diana Mao, mentioned how so many girls end up with this kind of fate.

"A lot of them are runaways, the FBI put out a report that runaways right here at Penn Station would be approached within several minutes by a pimp," she said.

One of the girls that attended this event, Kristina Perez, explained that she is a philosophy major, but is really interested in helping women who are victims of sex crimes.

"I was also a sexual assault victim myself, so I know it's not sex trafficking but it's something that, it's sad that that's how people treat girls, like property, and my goal is to change that," she said.

All in all, the ladies in attendance were able to learn about a very important issue affecting women right here in their own back yard.

There are countless treasures to be found along the Long Beach Island shoreline. Sand dollars, conch shells and even ten thousand year-old arrowheads! That's exactly what happened last week to 10-year old Noah Cordle who was walking along the beach and stumbled over the ancient artifact. “I thought it was a mussel shell, but it looked kind of too pointy to be a mussel shell and so I picked it up and it was an arrowhead,” Cordle explained.
