A man and his young son were shot at by a neighbor while riding their tractor in Camden Township, about 15 miles west of Waconia, Minn.

THE SHOOTING

Carver County deputies were called to Sunset Road and 102nd Street at about 9 p.m. Friday, May 23 on a suspicious incident of shots fired. The resident said he and his 11-year-old son were riding in a tractor when both the front and rear cab windows shattered unexpectedly.

The victim, a 40-year-old man, suffered small cuts on his neck consistent with spraying, shattered glass. The child was not injured.

“We thanked the Lord over and over that he didn't get hurt or killed,” said Daryl Feltmann, the victim’s father and boy’s grandfather.

'ABSOLUTELY NO REASON'

The victim said that to his knowledge, he has no conflict with his neighbor that would precipitate a shooting.

“There was absolutely no reason why he would do that,” Feltmann said. “I don't know why he did it.”

Deputies established a perimeter around the home of the neighbor, 51-year-old Kenneth Allen Walsh, who came outside and was arrested.

Walsh admitted he was upset with the victim and shot at him while he was riding in the tractor. Walsh admitted he used a scoped rifle and could see the victim in the scope crosshairs. He also acknowledged firing more than once from a position inside his home.

'HE'S A COWARD'

“I think he's a coward. He shot at him at their back, Feltmann said. “So if he couldn't come and talk about it -- one way or another about what was bothering him -- then I think he's a coward for trying to shoot my son and grandson in the back.”

Deputies later served a search warrant at Walsh’s home, seizing rifles and shotguns. They also noted holes in a window screen consistent with bullet holes.

Walsh is currently in custody at the Carver County jail, charged with attempted murder. He’s being held on $1 million bail.
