Wrong way crash kills 2 on I-35 near Minnesota-Iowa border

ALBERT LEA, Minn. (KMSP) -

Two men from Minnesota were killed in a crash when one of them drove the wrong way on Interstate 35 near the Iowa border.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, the crash happened shortly before 7 p.m. Wednesday on I-35 near Albert Lea, Minn. The preliminary incident report says 46-year-old Kirt Schmidt of Owatonna, Minn. was driving south in the northbound lanes and crashed with a car driven by 28-year-old James Winnes of Albert Lea.

Winnes' car was pushed into a semi, but the trucker was not hurt.
