SAVAGE, Minn. (KMSP) -

A black bear shot and wounded by police in Savage, Minn. was spotted Thursday afternoon, putting the community on alert once again.

BEAR SPOTTED BY BOY ON BIKE

Savage police said a child riding his bike spotted the bear near County Road 42 and O'Connell Road. Officers have been scouring the area since the report.

Police Chief Rodney Seurer said the bear will likely have to be killed when officers get to it.

SCHOOLS BEING CAREFUL

Parents lined up at Harriet Bishop Elementary School on Thursday, as the district asked parents to pick-up students who normally walk to school as a precaution. One parent told FOX 9 the bear isn't a huge concern, but they would rather play it safe and have no walkers.

WEEKEND SIGHTINGS, SHOOTING

The bear was first reported to Savage police last Friday, May 23. After numerous sightings, the bear was located at a crowded campground, where it was shot and wounded by police. The bear ran off, and hadn’t been seen since Memorial Day morning.

The bear is believed to be about 18 months old and could weigh up to 200 pounds.
