MINNEAPOLIS (KMSP) -

Target and the MLB have teamed up this season to recognize community heroes through the Target Presents “PEOPLE All-Star Teachers” program. Garden City Elementary in Minneapolis will receive a $200,000 Target School Library Makeover on Wednesday as part of the partnership.

“Major League Baseball’s wide-reaching partnership with Target will focus on the importance of education and teachers during a season where the All-Star Game will fittingly be hosted at Target Field,” said Tim Brosnan, MLB executive vice president, Business. “With Target’s dedication to education, it is a welcome addition to our outstanding relationship with PEOPLE in showcasing everyday All-Stars in our community.”

Other school library makeovers have been awarded in Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, San Jose, Calif., and Washington, D.C.

Current and former MLB athletes have been encouraging fans to nominate their teachers at allstarteachers.com, and the 90 finalists will be voted on from June 5 through June 29. The 30 winning “All-Star Teachers” – one representing each MLB club – will be revealed July 9.

The All-Star game will be held at Target Field on July 15.
