Who will represent Minnesota in the 2014 All-Star Game?

Posted: Updated:
MINNEAPOLIS (KMSP) - Target Field is hosting this year’s midsummer classic, and while fans are accustomed to seeing Joe Mauer in the All-Star Game each year, Major League Baseball unveiled the first ballot update on Tuesday, and with so much competition at first base, second baseman Brian Dozier looks like one of the only Twins in this year’s mix.

Dozier is hitting .247 and has compiled 11 home runs and a 43 runs – a league high. He sits fourth among American League second basemen.

Dozier says going to the All-Star Game would be a feat, but it's not his top priority.

"Of course everyone wants to make it, but at the same time, with the situation we've put ourselves in, we want to win. We want to win an we know that stuff takes care of itself. We just go on the field every day and play, and whatever happens, whatever performance you put up or not, the stats, anything like that, All-Star stuff, it takes care of itself. But it would be pretty cool," Dozier said.

Kurt Suzuki is the only other Twins player currently in the top five in his position for All-Star balloting. He’s fifth among American League catchers.

Potential pitchers weren’t announced on Tuesday as fans don’t vote on the, but Minnesota could see Glen Perkins and possibly Phil Hughes play come July. Perkins’ 14 saves are tied for the most in the American League and Hughes has five wins and one loss with a 3.23 ERA.

When it comes to drag racing, rocket-type speed is the name of the game -- but that also means things can go wrong very quickly, and a double crash at a Brainerd, Minn., track is another grim reminder.
