Avery Sunshine: 'Time To Shine'

Posted: Updated:

Featured on VH1's 'Artists You Oughta Know' series next month. She played The Mint 5/23 and has a new CD out tomorrow (5/27) called 'THE SUNROOM. Avery*Sunshine says, "The SunRoom" is the place where you can talk about anything and find your comfort."

Known for her invigorating and scintillating live performances, compellingly honest song writing and radiantly optimistic anthems, Avery*Sunshine has steadily filled a void for those starved for authentic, no holds barred soul and R&B. Based out of Atlanta, she has collaborated with everyone from Roy Ayers, Will Downing, and Musiq Soulchild to Michael Bublé, David Foster, Anthony Hamilton, and Jennifer Holliday. They have also opened shows for vocal powerhouses Ledisi and Rachelle Ferrell and blues icon B.B. King.

The music is potent and the message is simple. "We want people to know that they were created to SHINE and that the world is not complete without all of our individual contributions, "Avery*Sunshine declares."We were ALL given gifts to share and Dana and I hope that in sharing ours we give our sisters and brothers permission to UNAPOLOGETICALLY do the same."

Fun facts about Avery Sunshine: (Source: Wikipedia)

1) She is an American singer and pianist.

2) In college, White met Maia Nkenge Wilson, a vocal major, and together they formed a gospel and r&b singing duo, DaisyRew. In addition to performing in Africa, DaisyRew played churches in the area and at clubs, including the Apache Café, which was noted for launching the careers of several prominent artists, including India.Arie. Wilson was cast in a Broadway role following college, and Sunshine was hired as the Minister of Music at the St. Paul AME Church in Atlanta. DaisyRew continued to perform when Wilson, on breaks from her theatrical career in New York, would return to Atlanta. While working at the St. Paul AME Church, White met Dana Johnson, a guitarist, producer and songwriter who had previously worked with India.Arie. White, Johnson and Wilson began working together in 2003 with Johnson writing and producing the music, in addition to managing DaisyRew’s career. Soon after, Wilson was again cast in a Broadway production, and she left for New York. White then adopted the name AverySunshine.

3) From 2010 until late 2013, AverySunshine toured consistently, and developed a following throughout the United States, the UK, Europe, and Africa. They began recording a second album, The Sunroom, in November 2013, which will be released in May 2014 through a partnership with Shanachie Records.

Born and raised in Liverpool, signed by an inexperienced agent named Brian Epstein, hustled into the studio with a genius producer named George Martin...and out of that session came a hit song called "Do You Want To Know A Secret." Now here's the twist…we're not talking about The Beatles.
