Lady Gaga made a special trip to surprise kids at Gillette Children's Specialty Healthcare on Wednesday.

Gaga was in town for her ARTPOP Ball at the Xcel Energy Center and performed Wednesday night, but not before eliciting some smiles and plenty of surprised faces -- Gillette had no idea she was coming until a few hours prior to her visit.

"We had no idea at the time, that she was planning to visit Gillette while she was in town. She sang to our patients, spent one-on-one time with them, and was truly an inspiration," Cate Pardo with Gillette said.

It was a personal performance too. During her visit last year, Gaga was introduced to Gillette patient Emma Carroll. The two instantly bonded, and Lady Gaga even credits Carroll with helping her get through her own health struggles. On Wednesday, she wanted to return the favor -- and during her concert, she gave Emma and Gillette's CurePity movement a shout out.

Gaga also made Daniel Peterson's room feel more like a personal stage -- and he has the pictures to prove it.

"Actually, I kind of wanted to her to come into the room," he admitted. "I had just been waiting and finally, she came in."

She lit up Armani Tel's room too.

"She said, 'All the best. I hope all the bad things are away from you,'" Tel remembered.

Corie Maynard also got some special star treatment.

"I just asked for a hug, and she gave me a hug," Maynard said.

Each child at Gillette's has a story. Maynard is recovering from a brain injury while Tel is recovering from a car accident. Peterson is fighting a seizure disorder, but Gaga said she drew inspiration from them all -- just like she did when she met Carroll last year. That's why she returned and sang to them one by one.

"Born This Way" is Gaga's anthem to acceptance and empowerment, and while walking from room to room, she made sure it's message came through loud and clear.

"She told them that you were made to be a strong person, you are an inspiration to me and everyone else -- so keep fighting," Cate Padro said.
