5 ways to be happier at work

Are you stuck in a rut at work? Do you find yourself dreading getting out of bed in the morning? Being unhappy at work is stressful, depressing and draining, but you don’t have to turn in your notice to turn things around. Adrienne Laursen, LMFT, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Fox 9 Relationship Expert, shares tips for increasing your happiness at work, without having to quit your job.

Be mindful of your negativity

o When you hate your job, everyone notices, vicious cycle b/c it’s not getting your anywhere but in trouble with your boss.

o Be mindful about negative energy you’re focusing on (what you don’t/didn’t get).

o Affects your family, friendships, depression, weight, etc.

Focus on your awesome skill set and how you want to be perceived at work

o Remember why you’re good at your job.

o What skills, talents and competencies do you have to offer the company?

o Are you utilizing them? If not, how can you?

Commit to reinvesting in your role (training, volunteering for projects, learning something new)

o Be conscious of how much “checking-out you do.

o Re-engage, even if you have to force it.

Commit to something exciting outside of work

o Find something that feels good, that you can get excited about, and go do it!

o Excitement and positive energy will change your perspective, and follow you to the office.

Change your thoughts for a brighter outlook

o T houghts > Feelings > Actions

o If you want to change your actions/behavior, you need to start with changing your thoughts.
