Posted: Updated:

Minneapolis city leaders unveiled new renderings of the Nicollet Mall redesign project on Wednesday.

Architect James Corner is responsible for the redesign, with plans to turn the area into a retail, entertainment and transportation center. He describes the current Nicollet Mall as “cluttered and uninviting.”

Corner envisions retail shops and businesses having more windows, with skyways opening to balconies where people could sit and watch events along the Mall.

Developers hope to start construction in 2015, at an estimated cost of $50 million.
