SPRING FREEZE: Wednesday morning lows

The calendar may read mid-May but the thermometer read mid-October Wednesday morning across the Upper Midwest. Long time Minnesotans know to wait until after Memorial Day to start the garden, and for those who waited, it paid off. After a chilly night, with parts of the state under a frost advisory, the sun rose on some below freezing temperatures.

Below are a few of the coldest temperatures from this morning, with several locations getting below that important 32° mark.

Most of the metro was spared the frosty bite of winter, but nevertheless, it was quite a rude awakening.

Just in case you were wondering, the average low for this time of year in the Twin Cities is 48°.
