ANN ARBOR, Mich. (MyFox Detroit) - Cinetopia International Film Festival, returning for a third year on June 4-8, announced its full 2014 film schedule.

Fifty of the best feature-length comedies, dramas, and documentaries from the world's best film festivals will have 110 screenings during the five-day event. Many of the films will also be making their Michigan premiere.

Screenings will take place at 10 southeast Michigan venues, including the Detroit Film Theatre/Detroit Institute of Arts, College for Creative Studies, Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History, Cinema Detroit, Michigan Science Center, and Arab American National Museum in Detroit and the Michigan Theater, State Theater, and University of Michigan Modern Languages Building in Ann Arbor.

In addition to a robust program of independent films, Cinetopia is pleased to announce three special events.

The University of Michigan's John Sayles Symposium on June 4 will honor maverick director John Sayles (Go for Sisters, Lone Star, Eight Men Out), who will be in attendance with several of his collaborators. Cinetopia will screen Sayles films and host post-film discussions in conjunction with the symposium.

"Detroit Voices" is a short film competition open to the residents of Macomb, Oakland, Wayne, and Washtenaw counties. Two local filmmakers will win cash prizes and have their films screened at Cinetopia. The winners will be announced on 5/21.

Cinema Circus is a series of FREE outdoor movie screenings in public spaces around Detroit during the weeks leading up to Cinetopia. Each event will feature live entertainment followed by a family-friendly film at dusk (9 PM). Venues include:

Eastern Market on Friday, May 23

Ford Resource and Engagement Center on Saturday, May 24

New Center Park on Wednesday, May 28

Balduck Park on Saturday, May 31

Individual tickets are $12 for the general public and $9 for DIA, DFT, Wright Museum, Arab American Museum, and Michigan Theater members.
