Twitter has begun to roll out a new feature called "mute," which lets you ignore what someone posts without alerting that user.

"Muting a user on Twitter means their Tweets and Retweets will no longer be visible in your home timeline, and you will no longer receive push or SMS notifications from that user," Twitter product manager Paul Rosania wrote in a blog post. "The muted user will still be able to fave, reply to, and retweet your Tweets; you just won't see any of that activity in your timeline. The muted user will not know that you've muted them, and of course you can unmute at any time."

Basically, if you don't care for a user's Tweets and have no desire to see their interaction with your Tweets you can mute them without blocking, which is a more aggressive action because they user will see they are blocked.

The mute function has been added to the Android and iOS apps as well as the Twitter.com interface.

It appears the subway bedbug problem we've been reporting is getting worse. Commuters already have to contend with sweltering platforms, scurrying rats and packed train cars, and now there's another transit woe: fear of bedbugs.
