What sparked Jay Z elevator assault?

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) - Days after surveillance video emerged of rap mogul Jay Z being assaulted by his sister-in-law, Solange Knowles, there are reports the younger sibling of superstar Beyonce had been struggling with family and career issues.

Knowles, who was dropped by Jay Z's label last year and started her own, was "prone to outbursts" and didn't like a comment Jay Z had made, reported the NY Post.

Celebrity and entertainment website TMZ posted video Monday of Beyonce's sister attacking the rap star inside an elevator.

Knowles walked into the elevator with Jay Z, and seconds later, was seen wildly punching, swinging and kicking her brother-in-law as Beyonce looked on.

On Wednesday, Beyonce posted several photos with her sister to the photo sharing site Instagram where the pair is seen in happier times. Earlier this week, several media outlets reported the younger sister had taken down all but one photo of Beyonce from her own Instagram account.

TMZ reported the incident occurred at the Standard Hotel in Manhattan after the Met Costume Institute Gala on May 5.

The Standard Hotel says it is investigating the leak of the security video.  Asked about the video on Monday by The Associated Press, the hotel issued a statement saying it is "shocked and disappointed that there was a clear breach of our security system."

The video was reportedly shopped around and eventually sold for $250K, reported the Post.

Jay Z appears to be wearing a white tuxedo which he was wearing on the red carpet with Beyonce at the event. A woman in the corner of the elevator watching the drama unfold appears to be Beyonce.

In the surveillance footage obtained by TMZ, Jay Z does not hit back as a body guard intervened.  Knowles lands several kicks on the rap star who grabs her foot.

There is no audio with the video posted online.

The website reports Jay Z, Beyonce and Solange left the hotel together, but the sisters got into one vehicle and Jay Z took off in another.

The hotel says the leaked video violates the confidentiality it provides customers. It says it "will discipline and prosecute the individuals involved to our fullest capacity."

Representatives for Beyonce, Jay Z and Solange didn't immediately comment to the Associated Press.

When a New York City dry cleaners was destroyed by Superstorm Sandy, the only item to survive was Nicole Pagliaro's wedding dress. But her name was lost to owner Hector Pacheco, who reopened after more than a year and in a new location. Pagliaro had brought the dress to him after her 2012 wedding. When the storm swamped and shuttered the Staten Island store, she assumed it was lost. But two weeks ago, she took a different route to work and spotted it in the window.
