Police: Man punches girlfriend, hits her with car

Posted: Updated:

MOONACHIE, N.J. (AP) - Attempted murder charges have been filed against a northern New Jersey man who allegedly punched his girlfriend in the face before hitting and dragging her with his car

Moonachie police say 18-year-old Oscar Pedraza of Little Ferry was arguing with the 32-year-old woman Friday night when the dispute turned physical. He allegedly started punching the woman, then drove into her while trying to flee the scene.

The woman was dragged for several feet before she fell unconscious on to a roadway. She suffered serious injuries and was being treated at a hospital.

Besides the attempted murder count, Pedraza also was charged with domestic violence assault, hindering and other offenses. His bail was set at $385,000 cash, and it was not known Sunday if he has retained a lawyer.

    Newark school enrollment problems

    Friday, August 22 2014 5:17 PM EDT2014-08-22 21:17:11 GMT
The school year in Newark is getting off to a rocky start. Classes start in less than two weeks and parents are still waiting in line for hours to find out where their kids are enrolled. The problem is being blamed on a glitch in the school's new online open enrollment system. To say mother of three Jennifer Caraballo is frustrated may be an understatement. She is one of hundreds of Newark parents desperately now trying to find a new school for her children.
