2 Tornadoes Confirmed from Last Week’s Storms

Posted: Updated:

While this severe weather outbreak was not history breaking, it did manage to stir up 2 tornadoes in southern Minnesota which the National Weather Service has now confirmed. The EF0s were brief touchdowns that caused little in the way of actual damage, but could have been much worse had they stayed on the ground because both were very near populated areas. More folks experienced straight line wind damage than actual tornado damage with 2 separate downbursts located and a bunch of scattered reports from Dakota and Goodhue counties. Here are the stats and paths for the 2 confirmed tornadoes…

One touching down really close to St. James, the other to the northeast of Madelia. Both on the ground for just a few seconds… at least that’s all the National Weather Service can confirm. But the downbursts that occurred caused far more damage with one on the west side of Waseca, and the other close to Montgomery. Both caused some locally significant damage as winds were estimated to be up to 85mph. Here are a couple pictures of the damage, the radar image at the time, and the path of the strongest winds…

While another severe weather outbreak is not expected, much of the area is just to the north of the slight risk category issued by the Storm Prediction Center for Sunday and Monday, so keep a watchful eye to the sky just in case.
