Painters help save boy who had broken his leg

Posted: Updated:
LAKE ORION, Mich. (WJBK) - Two painters are being called "heroes" after they helped a boy who had broken his leg.

Bill Fisher and a coworker were painting a home near a dam on Lake Bunny Run in Lake Orion Friday afternoon when they suddenly heard screams.

Without hesitation, the two jumped in their work truck to help and found a 13-year-old boy badly hurt near the water.

"We sped down here as fast as we could. He was up there dangling," Fisher says.

The two were able to pull Alex Ribero, who had broken his leg, up out of the water.

"The bone came up through the kneecap, where the kneecap was basically off," Fisher remembers.

Neighbors living near Lake Bunny Run tell FOX 2's Erika Erickson they see kids playing often near the dam. Today, Alex was alone and had said he jumped into the water to try and cool off.

Other neighbors became aware of what was going on and came outside to help. They are thankful the painters heard his screams and came to help.

"If he couldn't have pulled himself out of the water, he could've drowned," says Fisher.

Alex went into surgery Friday and will recover.
