Big Tippers Leave Rittenhouse Restaurant Workers $7,000

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

Some Rittenhouse restaurant workers are a lot richer thanks to a tipper with deep pockets.

"My staff was in a big tizzy," said Robert Wasserman. He's talking about the two gigantic tips a pair of men left a server and bartender at his restaurant and bar Rouge in Rittenhouse Square.

"We're celebrating 16 years here, and I've never seen anything like this before," he said.

The checks show a $5,000 tip on a $258 dinner. The other shows a $2,000 tip on drinks.

"We were all flabbergasted. We couldn't believe it," said bartender Samantha Trasatti. She says two average dressed men had dinner there Thursday night. When they left, her coworker, who is a server, discovered the $5,000 tip. The men came back a few hours later and ordered drinks from Samantha, then tipped her $2,000.

"I knew it wasn't fake because it happened a few hours before, and I was just in total shock," said Samantha. Initially, she couldn't make sense of their extreme generosity until the men revealed something just as powerful as the amount of money they left.

"They said they wanted to remain anonymous, and they're doing it in the name of Jesus. They said they want to spread the good word. I heard they go throughout the country and give tips like this to change people's lives, which it has for me," said Samantha.

She recently started her own fitness and nutrition business and plans to use the money to start a website. The server who received the other tip is a student.
