Local high school staying Sager strong

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA, Ga. - Long time sports reporter Craig Sager has been known for two things in his career, his colorful wardrobe and his dedication to covering the NBA. Sager has been a colorful picture on national sports broadcasts for decades.

Now Sager is battling Leukemia but is not facing the challenge alone. Sager’s friends in the NBA, fans across the country and Sager’s own son have been supporting him in more ways than one.

Sager’s son says he is strong, so when he was asked to judge a fashion contest featuring Cherokee High School students he couldn't resist. The fashion show featured students dressing up in outfits mimicking the iconic broadcaster and took in donations in Sager’s honor.

Sager Junior’s own star has been rising since his father was diagnosed with cancer two weeks ago. He has even started to dress like his father while working as a writer for Score Atlanta.

“The long hair is my trademark and as soon as my dad got sick, I was like you know what? This is the time, I might as well start learning how to dress like the man,” said Sager Junior.

Sager JR gained 11,000 followers on Twitter after he flew to San Antonio to sub for his dad and interview Spurs Head Coach Greg Popovich.

Courage is what Craig Sager is showing now. Sager’s chemotherapy is over and now he waits to see if he will need a bone marrow transplant.

Sager Junior hopes that his father will get healthy soon so he can fulfill his dream of reporting next to his dad.
