Shaun White Surprises Local Girl At Prom

Posted: Updated:
Prom night is a night most girls will never forget, but for a one local girl senior prom was truly a surprise of a lifetime.

The teen had no idea her celebrity dream date had accepted her proposal she sent over a video.

Fox 29's Chris O'Connell has her fairy tale story.

It all started with a video asking, “Shaun, will you be my prom date?”

Mount St. Joseph's senior Carly Monzo asked pro snowboarder and 2-time Olympic gold medalist Shaun White to her senior prom.

"Everyone was like you are not serious. I was like, I'm dead serious," Carly said.

The video got about 9,000 views, but still, no response from White.

"If he had just responded, recognized my existence. I think I would have cried," she said.

But little did Carly know that the Olympian not only watched her video, but started making plans more than a month ago to be at Whitemarsh Valley Country Club to be her date.

There was one requirement, it had to be kept a secret. Her mother got the call 6 hours earlier.

"He will not come if word got out. So it has to be a total surprise for her," her mother said.

Then, at 9:30 p.m. Friday night Carly was called to the stage to get a corsage from her celebrity date.

"All of the sudden the curtains dropped on the photo booth and the whole Bad Things band started jamming. I was speechless,” Carly said.

Shaun White and his whole band "Bad Things" had crashed the prom in a big way.

So did she ditch her prom date?

“A little bit. Trust me he didn't mind. He was like Shaun White stole my prom date," Carly said.

And believe it or not, it was Shaun White's first prom, too. They shared a dance, he even stole a kiss, but don't tell dad.

The band played 3 songs. White and his boys hung out for a couple hours.

Although it was Carly’s date the whole school got treated to a prom night none of them will forget.
