Goose with arrow through head still on the loose

Posted: Updated:
The incident started when staff with the wildlife center spotted the goose with an arrow through its head last Saturday in Kennesaw, GA .

According to the wildlife center their staff attempted to rescue the goose before it flew into a neighbor's private property.

“Basically what happened we got there we saw the man on his property and we stopped and asked if we could go onto his property and catch this goose,” said Aware Wildlife Center staff member Marjan Ghadrdan.

The center said that the homeowner was hesitant to let the staff help apprehend the goose. They said that the homeowner wanted permission from police or animal control from allowing them to enter. According to the center the man was still hesitant even after police were called.

“The police asked him if we could get onto his property and he said no that he just did not want anyone on his property,” said Ghadrdan.

Aware Wildlife Center Director Dr. Tarah Hadley said that 'it’s frustrating' that this incident is what is keeping them from providing the care the goose desperately needs.

“Our main goal is to try and rescue this goose that we know is probably in some pain, probably cannot eat as well, probably cannot fly as well,” said Dr. Hadley.

Hadley said she realizes the homeowner legally does not have to allow them onto his property, but is hoping he will change his mind. Hadley hopes that they will have the opportunity at giving this goose a chance at a normal life.

“I am just hoping that those property owners and they know who they are in Kennesaw that they would allow the authorities and particularly us to come in and try to save this goose.  That's all we want,” said Hadley.

Biologists with the Department of Natural Resources are also keeping an eye on the goose. They say that right now it seems to be doing ok and any rescue attempts on their end may do more harm than good.
