ST. PAUL, Minn. (KMSP) -

More than 200 Minnesota soldiers will say goodbye to their families as they prepare to deploy for a mission in the Middle East.

220 members of the 34th Combat Aviation Brigade will head out Friday morning from St. Paul for a year-long deployment.

The soldiers will first go to Camp Ripley for two weeks of training, then two months in Texas before heading to Kuwait.

“I know technology is good and there's a lot of ways to stay connected at home, but the kids are older, in school,” Sgt. Joe Vogel said. “Just having the repetition of dad being home, dad helping with homework, sports and just playing outside -- that's the part I'll miss.”
