NEW BALTIMORE, Mich. (WJBK) - What police thought would be a drug raid turned into a discovery of something much more disturbing.

Police in New Baltimore were executing a search warrant at a residence when they discovered a property full of animals - some living and some dead.

Investigators found 11 dogs, two cats, one snake and one mouse. All pets were unregistered and unvaccinated. One of the dogs found is known to have seriously attacked two children, according to Jeff Randazzo from Macomb Co. Animal Control.

Investigators also made a gruesome discovery in the freezer.

"We happened to find, of all things, in the freezer, where the food is located - you got popsicles, you got hamburger meat - and then you have dead animals wrapped in plastic," says Chief Tim Wiley. They say it was two puppies.

One deceased dog was also found in a shed in the backyard.

Macomb County Animal Control is investigating the cause of death for the animals to see if it was natural or somehow intentional.

The outcome of the investigation will depend on what will happen with the pets, but in New Baltimore residents are only allowed four dogs on a property so, either way, not all of the dogs have the possibility of returning to the home. For now, animal control has taken the animals to a safe haven.

Margaret Carp was taken into custody.

Investigators say they did find other things inside the house while executing the search warrant, but would elaborate since the investigation is ongoing.
