Shooting leaves one dead in Gary restaurant parking lot

GARY, Ind. (Sun-Times Media Wire) - A 20-year-old man was shot and killed Thursday afternoon in the parking lot of a McDonald’s restaurant in northwest Indiana.

The shooting happened at the restaurant at 5th Avenue and Grant Street in Gary, Ind., and the victim has been identified as Alvis Moore, with home addresses in Gary and Merrillville, the Post-Tribune is reporting.

Moore was pronounced dead at the scene at 4:30 p.m., the Lake County Coroner’s office said.

Witnesses reported hearing shots and seeing the victim on the pavement about 3:35 p.m. Thursday.

Family members arrived at the scene about 4:20 p.m. to identify the victim, but police have not released any other details of the shooting, the second murder within 24 hours at the same location.

About 2:30 a.m., Clifton Morrow, 34, of the 1000 block of Chase Street, was shot in killed behind the wheel of his car, police spokeswoman Cpl. Gabrielle King said.

She added that witnesses reported hearing gunshots in the 1000 block of Taney Street. Officers found Morrow slumped behind the wheel of his car, which had crashed into bushes in the alley between Chase and Taney streets, police records state.

Meanwhile, Gary has recorded 11 violent deaths so far this year, two less than the same time in 2013.
