Immigration protest blocks downtown Minneapolis intersection

MINNEAPOLIS (KMSP) -

An immigration reform demonstration blocked the intersection at 4th Street and 4th Avenue in downtown Minneapolis during rush hour Thursday.

The group of Asamblea protesters didn't have a permit to demonstrate and had traffic blocked in all four directions.

“We don’t know what to do with these guys,” one Minneapolis cop told Fox 9.

“Today we traveled across the state on a bus tour pilgrimage,” one of the organizers said. “We went to Willmar, Eden Prairie and Burnsville to visit with congressmen, urging them to sign the discharge petition in the House, and urging them to fight for a vote on H.R. 15.”

H.R. 15 is the House version of a Senate-passed bill to reform border security, enforcement of immigration laws and the legal immigration process.

The Asamblea protesters had one immediate goal – to get arrested – and one overwhelming mission – “not one more deportation, not one more broken family.”

The protest started to wind down shortly after 5 p.m., with no arrests made.
