SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (WJBK) - A man is in custody in connection with a homicide that took place Thursday at a hotel in Southfield.

Police were called to the Quality Inn Hotel on Telegraph Road, near Franklin Road, at approximately 11:20 a.m. There, they found a man in his 60s with an apparent stab wound to his neck inside one of the hotel rooms. The man's son was found in the hallway with a hunting-style knife.

The father was apparently doing a well being check on the son, who had been staying at the hotel for a few days.

Southfield Police Chief Eric Hawkins says the son has a history of mental illness.
