Wild win series with OT sniper, round 2 tickets on sale Saturday

DENVER (KMSP) - The Minnesota Wild picked up the only road win in the series Wednesday night in Denver with a decisive overtime victory in Game 7 against the Colorado Avalanche – even with another questionable call early in the night.

The Wild will head straight to Chicago where they’ll take on the defending Stanley Cup champion Blackhawks in the conference semifinals on Friday.

Wednesday marked the first playoff series win for the Wild since 2003.

Here's another fun fact: The Wild are the first team in NHL history to win a Game 7 in overtime after scoring 4 game-tying goals.

The Avs launched into the game with an 8-2 shot lead and controversial early goal with Jamie McGinn on top of Darcy Kuemper.

Minnesota was down 4-3 when Jared Spurgeon tied it up with a sniper shot above Varlamov’s glove with 2:27 left in regulation. Nino Niederreiter scored his second goal of the game 5:02 into overtime to bring the Wild to a 5-4 victory.

Mikko Koivu and Dany Heatley scored the Wild’s two other goals, Heatley's in the first 9 minutes of the second period to even the score at 2-2.

The Wild are now 3-0 in Game 7 playoff appearances, and Minnesota sports teams as a whole – that’s dating back to the Lakers -- are 11-6 in Game 7 appearances.

NINO MANIA

Niederreiter jerseys were being created in the Xcel Energy Center jersey room on Thursday anticipating fans will quickly hop on the Nino bandwagon, but they perhaps don't know that in order to acquire him in the 2013 draft, the Wild traded away fan favorite Cal Clutterbuck. Luckily for them, Niederreiter showed up last night with 2 goals and 1 assist on the night.
