Speed roommating

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Speed roommating is basically speed dating for a roommate. The concept is simple: you walk in, take either a white tag if you are looking for a roommate or a pink tag if you need a room, then you join the crowd, and the fun begins.

Renters and room seekers write their desired price ranges and neighborhoods on their name tags. Emily, the spokesperson spareroom.com, started holding events like this back in 2011 to create safe environments for their users to meet. The goal is to let people weed out the weirdoes and find their next renter or roommate.

The mixers are free, and not just for twentysomethings. We met a mother and son duo who said they had speed roommating success in the past. Now they are on the hunt for someone to live in the third bedroom of their Washington Heights apartment.

And some people were just here for moral support

Speed roommating mixers are held every two weeks at the Celtic Club in the Theater District. The site will branched out to Brooklyn for the first time.

NYC woman finds wedding dress lost after Sandy

When a New York City dry cleaners was destroyed by Superstorm Sandy, the only item to survive was Nicole Pagliaro's wedding dress. But her name was lost to owner Hector Pacheco, who reopened after more than a year and in a new location. Pagliaro had brought the dress to him after her 2012 wedding. When the storm swamped and shuttered the Staten Island store, she assumed it was lost. But two weeks ago, she took a different route to work and spotted it in the window.
