8 Hennepin County K9s get new protective vests

MINNEAPOLIS (KMSP) - A group of 8 Hennepin County sheriff's K9s are receiving new bullet and stab protective vests on Wednesday, thanks to a fundraising effort by Vested Interest in K9s, Inc.

THE DOGS

Eddie
Jake
Smokey
Azor
Dugan
Brody
Rosko

The 8 dogs are trained in apprehension, narcotics detection and explosives detection.

“Just like our sworn officers, members of the K9 Unit put their lives on the line in the name of public safety,” Hennepin County Sheriff Rich Stanek said in a statement. “These vests will be a big asset in keeping our four-legged crime fighters safe while on duty.”

THE CHARITY

Vested Interest in K9s is a 501c (3) charity located in East Taunton, Mass. Established in 2009, its mission is to provide bullet and stab protective vests and other assistance to dogs of law enforcement and related agencies throughout the U.S.

THE VESTS

The K9 vests are made in the U.S. by Armor Express of Michigan. The vests cost $950 each.
