Minn. bill aims to ban guns from domestic abusers

Posted: Updated:
ST. PAUL, Minn. (KMSP) - The Minnesota House is expected to vote on a bill that bans guns from people convicted of certain abuse crimes.

HOW IT WORKS

If the bipartisan bill authored by Democratic Rep. Dan Schoen becomes a law, those convicted of child abuse or domestic abuse would have to give their guns to a designated legal person or entity within three days.

Republican legislator Tony Cornish is backing the bill and says it protects gun owners' rights and also those in tumultuous domestic abuse situations.
