Twin Cities R&B legend Sonny Knight just recorded an album called “I’m Still Here,” – still here, indeed, and still throwing parties for soul music fans.
Summit Beer Hall will be hosting a pre-release listening party for Sonny Knight & The Lakers at 9 p.m. on Friday, May 2 where you can hear the album and enjoy a pint with the boys.
“It’s just amazing, it’s a resurrection of an old guy like myself coming together and finding these young cats and they’re as enthusiastic about doing this, so it made it really fun,” Knight said.
Long ago as a member of Haze, Knight did embrace the wide-legged pant and said 50-some years ago, "the bigger the bell bottom, the better.”
Now, performing with younger musicians, Knight's still got it, but has to fight a bit to keep up.
“It was a little intimidating in some ways because those cats are younger and on another level of thoughts and jokes, and you know me with the hearing going, ‘What? What are you saying?” Knight said.
The official release party will be Saturday, May 3 at First Avenue.
