U of M student robbed of cell phone near Williams Arena

MINNEAPOLIS (KMSP) -

A U of M student was robbed of her cell phone along University Avenue south of Williams Arena on Friday just before midnight.

While walking on the south side of University Avenue near the University Avenue Ramp at 11:50 p.m., she said a lone suspect emerged from the bushes, threatened her with a handgun and demanded her phone, and fled after she gave it up. She was not injured.

The suspect, described as a black man about 6-foot-2 with a muscular build and wearing a dark hoodie and dark jeans, fled east on University Avenue toward TCF Bank Stadium. The gun was described as a black, semi-automatic handgun.

The Minneapolis police department is currently handling the case. Anyone with information is asked to call the Minneapolis Police Tip Line at 612-692-8477 and reference case number MP-14-135621.
