Wild back at the X for must-win Game 6 of NHL playoffs

Posted: Updated:
DENVER (KMSP) - The Minnesota Wild’s return to Colorado for Game 5 against the Avalanche proved fruitless in a late loss, bringing the Avalanche up 3-2 in the Western Conference First Round series.

The Avalanche pulled off a 4-3 overtime win at the Pepsi Center on Saturday night after the Wild overcame a 2-game deficit, winning a pair of matchups at the Xcel Energy Center before heading back to Colorado.

Zach Parise and Kyle Brodziak each scored a goal within about 2 minutes of each other early in the third period to bring the Wild up 3-2, but PA Parenteau tied the game with 1:14 left in regulation and ultimately, rookie Nathan MacKinnon scored the final goal past Wild goalie Darcy Kuemper 3:27 into overtime.

The Avalanche are now up 3-2 in the best-of-7 series and will attempt to finish off the Wild in Game 6 at the Xcel Energy Center on Monday at 8 p.m. CT.

There will once again be a pre-game party from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at gates 2 and 4 of Xcel Energy Center before the puck drops on Monday.
