As bad as this winter has been, the fact that snow is still flying across parts of Minnesota makes it just that much worse.
Another 3 to 8 inches of snow fell across the arrowhead Thursday and Thursday night adding to what has already been a phenomenal season for moisture.
Duluth received another 4.3” of the white stuff and is now in third place for all time snowiest seasons.
What may actually make this season even more unbearable is that last year was just as snowy… literally.
This season passed up last year to take the third spot on the coveted list.
The snowiest 5 seasons on record are listed below.
1. 135.4 inches 1995-1996
2. 131.8 inches 1949-1950
3. 129.6 inches 2013-2014
4. 129.4 inches 2012-2013
5. 128.6 inches 1996-1997
It would take just 6 more inches this year to make this the snowiest season on record for the city.
And before you say that can’t happen because it’s almost May, think again.
Snow can fall in Duluth all the way into June and with the forecast looking cool and wet next week, I wouldn’t put anything past Mother Nature.
But at least some are still finding time to take advantage of “springlike” activities with chicken on the grill as the snow is falling and the tornado sirens are sounding for the statewide test.
