Man facing murder charges after shooting alleged car thief

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. - DeKalb County Police have charged a man with murder after he allegedly shot and killed a suspected car thief.

The shooting happened outside of Fletchers Restaurant at South DeKalb Mall on Chandler Road late Wednesday night.

In a news release, DeKalb County Police said the shooting suspect, 26-year-old Quintavious Judon, was sitting inside the restaurant when he noticed a suspect entering his car in the parking lot.

The release states Judon went outside, confronted the man, and fired shots that hit the suspect.

The suspect attempted to flee in his own vehicle but wrecked in the parking lot.

Medics rushed the wounded man to Grady Memorial Hospital where he later died.

DeKalb County Police Captain Stephen Fore told FOX 5's Doug Evans that Judon had the proper permit to carry a hand gun, but added Georgia law forbids the use of deadly force in protecting property.

Judon has no prior criminal record.

As of Thursday afternoon, DeKalb Police had not released the name of the dead man pending notification of next of kin.
