The rare snowy owl that was injured after being hit by a bus in Washington D.C. back in January has been released back into the wild. The owl had been receiving care at the center to replace damaged wing feathers.

“The snowy flew off with strong steady wing beats, showing off the new flight feathers supplied by The Raptor Center,” said Julie Ponder, Executive Director of The Raptor Center. “He is in great condition and will hopefully head back north in the coming days.”

The Raptor Center at the University of Minnesota selected the release site just outside of Superior, Wisconsin near the Minnesota/Wisconsin border. The area was chosen based on a significant number of snowy owls being observed.
