DENVER (KMSP) -

The Stanley Cup Playoffs started with a stomach punch for the Minnesota Wild, as they lost a heartbreaker in overtime to the Colorado Avalanche, 5-4.

The Wild carried a 4-2 lead into the third period, and held a one-goal lead in the final minute. Colorado pulled its goalie and the Wild nearly had an empty-net goal to secure the win, but Minnesota-native Erik Johnson hustled back to make the save.

With 13 seconds left in regulation, Paul Stastny was able to jam-in a rebound, tying the game at 4 and forcing overtime. In OT, Stastny played the villain again, netting the game-winning goal for the Avalanche.

Game 2 is Saturday night in Denver.
