(WJBK) - General Motors CEO Mary Barra spoke with industry insiders this week ahead of the auto show in New York.

She shared some prepared remarks and pointed out the actions GM has taken in light of the ongoing investigation, such as sending ignition locks to dealers for repairs and placing two engineers on paid leave.

But those topics were also the focus of questions after her remarks, as well as the seemingly delayed timeline of announcing the recall.

"That's one of the things that I think sometimes gets lost, is that General Motors brought this forward as we realized and put the pieces together. Now, I'm on record, and I believe it took too long and that's one of the reasnos we have Mr. Valukas doing the investigation so we get every single ounce of learning out of this. But, when we realized it, we brought it forward," she said.

Barra added the company "agonized over the decision" to place the two engineers on paid leave, but "felt it was right for the individuals and right for the company."

Barra refused to speculate on how many people might be involved in the investigation.

As for the recalled vehicles, Barra says the company started shipping parts to dealerships last week, which will be an ongoing process for some time.
