Deputy shot during traffic stop near Perley, Minn.

PERLEY, Minn. (KMSP) -

A Norman County deputy was taken to the hospital Tuesday morning after a shooting in Perley, Minn., just north of Fargo-Moorhead. The suspect, identified as Steven Anthony Henderson was arrested without incident two hours after the shooting at a vacant farmstead three miles from the incident.

Around 8:30 a.m., the deputy conducted a traffic stop and was in the process of taking Henderson's brother, William Patrick Henderson into custody on an outstanding warrant from Pennington County. According to the preliminary investigation, Steven Henderson shot the deputy in the back. The deputy returned fire, but did not hit Henderson who then fled in the vehicle.

The deputy was shot in his bullet-resistant vest and was taken to a Fargo area hospital where he was treated and released. Henderson is being held in the Northwest Regional Corrections Center in Crookston.
