DETROIT (WJBK) -- Police say a 19-year-old man has died from injuries he sustained in a gang shooting outside a Detroit high school.

Sgt. Michael Woody says police learned Sunday that Darryl Smith died from the injuries he sustained Friday evening in the parking lot of East English Village Preparatory Academy. Woody says no one was in custody Monday.

According to Chief James Craig, Smith was caught in the line of fire when gang members shot into a crowd of students at the school's parking lot. "We know who they are," said Craig. "They should know we're not gonig to rest until we dismantle both gangs."

No other injuries were reported.

Craig says that Smith was not involved in any gang activity. "He was a good Detroiter," said Craig.

Detroit Public Schools spokesman Steve Wasko says about 800 attended the Grammy Night event for seniors at the school, which has about 1,500 students.
