SPRING SCAMS: BBB offers warning ahead of home repair season

Posted: Updated:

Once the snow melts, a lot of people look to spruce up their yards and homes -- but the Better Business Bureau warns that this is also the time of year when crooks try to take advantage of homeowners.

Dan Hendrickson, with the BBB, joined Fox 9 News to share some tips for those who hare having their tree trimming and asphalt addressed this year.

WHAT TO DO

- Hire a professional
- Be wary of door-to-door offers
- Check the credentials
- Request an onsite inspection

Check for Tree Trimming: International Society of Arboriculture | Tree Care Industry Association

WHAT TO AVOID

- Any service provider claiming to have materials left over from another job
- High-pressure sales
- A deal that sounds too good to be true
