Woman's body found near wooded creek in Maplewood; no foul play suspected

Posted: Updated:

Maplewood police say they have identified the body of a middle-aged woman found about 30 yards off a paved walking path on Saturday, but they say no signs of foul play were found.

"While the woman's death does not appear to have been caused by another person, investigators will be diligent in efforts to find out how and why the woman ended up in the location she was found," Maplewood Police chief Paul Schnell vowed. "We'd certainly like to provide as much information as possible to her friends and family members."

Officers have not released the identity of the woman pending notification of family, but police confirmed they were called to a wooded area near Hazelwood and Beam at about 3:20 p.m. on Saturday after it was reported that the body of a fully-clothed woman had been found in a creek bed near a steep embankment.

The Associated Press reported she was found partially submerged, was wearing hiking boots and was not carrying identification.

So far, police have not determined the time of her death, but they said she had not been reported missing.

The woman's body has been taken to the Ramsey County Medical Examiner's Office, and an autopsy to determine the manner and cause of her death has been scheduled.

More information is expected to be released on Monday.
